Freightgate Participates with Industry Leaders on Federal Maritime Commission Supply Chain Innovation Team

Freightgate, the Premier Innovation Leader in cloud computing and mobile applications for logistics and global supply chain management, will participate as an advisor on the newly formed Federal Maritime Commission Supply Chain Innovation Team.

Freightgate will participate along with leading officials from America’s three largest ports, four marine terminal operators, eight major shippers, and seven ocean carriers – plus ocean transportation intermediaries, port labor, railroads, truckers, and chassis providers. The Supply Chain Innovation Team will develop commercial solutions to supply chain challenges and related port congestion concerns.

The Federal Maritime Commission’s Supply Chain Innovation Team Initiative, led by Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye, was officially launch on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.  Team members will develop commercial solutions to supply chain issues that interfere with the effective operation of the U.S. international supply chain. The initial project will involve stakeholders who do business at or with the San Pedro Bay ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

“The innovation team approach focuses on obstacles to the smooth flow of cargo in our $980 billion annual export and import containerized trade,” said Dye. “We are not offering an ‘FMC solution’ to congestion-related problems. Rather, we are acting as a catalyst for committed teams of major company leaders as they exchange ideas and debate creative proposals for supply chain improvements. The nonpublic, small team effort is conducive to robust engagement among team members” stated FMC Commissioner Dye.

Commissioner Dye emphasized that the FMC’s initiative is intended to complement and accelerate other on-going efforts, such as those underway in Los Angeles, Long Beach and at the Port of New York & New Jersey, and to stimulate similar efforts elsewhere. “We know others are already hard at work on these issues and expect our teams’ efforts will contribute to their success.”
